Our Values, Virtues, and the Difference Between Them

A company's values play a crucial role in contributing to good wellbeing in the workplace by shaping the organisational culture, guiding behaviours, and fostering a positive work environment. In this blog post, we will explore our virtues and values, how we define them, and shed light on what they mean to us.

Why our Virtues and Values are so important to share

One of the main reasons we share our company values is because when a company's values align with the personal values of its employees, it creates a sense of purpose and belonging. Employees are more likely to find meaning in their work, which can lead to greater job satisfaction and overall wellbeing.

At Clarion Insight we’ve taken care to select values that promote open communication, respect, and inclusivity, to create a psychologically safe workplace. We hope this enables employees to feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, ideas, and concerns, which reduces stress and anxiety. In addition, we’ve selected values related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a fair and inclusive workplace, where all employees feel respected and have equal opportunities. We hope these values contribute to a sense of belonging and reduce stress related to discrimination or exclusion.

What’s the Difference Between Values and Virtues?

The difference between values and virtues is:

Values are deeply held beliefs and principles that we at Clarion consider important, desirable, and worthy of pursuit. They reflect what we value the most. Values are more general than virtues.  For example, Honesty as a value may look like valuing truthfulness, transparency, and integrity in communication and actions.

Virtues are personal characteristics that individuals can strive to embody in their thoughts, actions, and behaviour. They are more specific than values, and often internal to the individual.  For example, Honesty as a virtue looks like being truthful and sincere in one's words and actions.

Values and virtues together provide a framework for making decisions and guiding one's conduct. They determine how we act around others and how we are perceived by others beyond the workplace.

Our Values

Our values are TRUST, TOLERANCE AND TEAMWORK.  Here’s a bit more about each, and how we embody them:

Trust

We understand that trust is not merely earned, but cultivated over time through actions that reflect transparency, reliability, and authenticity. Trust forms the foundation of our team, enabling authenticity in an environment that feels safe and supportive.  We work hard towards excellent wellbeing in the workplace.

Tolerance

We foster inclusivity and equality through acknowledgement, acceptance, and support. We take practical steps towards equity, knowing that celebrating difference and encouraging diverse perspectives can only make us stronger.

Teamwork

When we work together, we harness the collective knowledge and experience of individuals creating meaningful impact. We understand that we are greater than the sum of our parts when we work together.  Through collaboration and teamwork, we make a difference. We multiply our collective knowledge and experience and bring humility to our approach.

Our Virtues

Our virtues are HUNGRY, HUMBLE, SMART.

We’ve chosen these as our virtues, influenced by the work of Patrick Lencioni, who defines them as the three characteristics of an ideal team player.  Here’s a bit more about how we’ve adapted them to be our own:

Hungry

Hungry individuals exhibit a strong work ethic, intrinsic motivation, and proactive mindset, constantly seeking opportunities to contribute, take on additional responsibilities, and drive team progress.

Humble

Humble individuals prioritise collective success, readily sharing credit, praising others, and aligning with team goals, demonstrating self-confidence without arrogance.

Smart

Smart individuals possess emotional intelligence and interpersonal awareness, enabling them to navigate interpersonal situations effectively, exercise sound judgment in group dynamics, and consider the impact of their words on the team.

In summary, we have selected Clarion’s values in part to have a significant positive impact on wellbeing in the workplace. We hope they shape the workplace culture, by promoting psychological safety, supporting work-life balance and providing recognition and appreciation. Our belief is that when employees feel that their company's values are aligned with their own, it creates a positive work environment that fosters good wellbeing in the workplace and overall job satisfaction.

At Clarion Insight, we truly believe that people make the biggest difference, and that organisations thrive when their people thrive. For more information about what it’s like to work at Clarion Insight, including testimonials and employee benefits, take a look at our careers page.
